PlatinumGames on Bayonetta 3; Other “unannounced” projects

PlatinumGames has had a very good year as they’ve released some of the most awesome titles recently, like NieR: Automata and the upcoming Bayonetta 3 and Astral Chain.

However, the studio head Atsushi Inaba said in 2019 that the company will be even bigger, with some very nice projects planned. Inaba talked about the importance of this year for PlatinumGames and how they’re trying to get it to a point where they can do more of their own development decisions.

Previously, they had to depend on other studios, such as Bayonetta. He remarked:

“It’s absolutely the truth that there are cases where you want to do a sequel but if you don’t own the IP, you can’t do it. It’s that simple, and quite frankly in the case of Bayonetta it took a lot of time and energy to get it to the point where sequels could be made. It wasn’t as simple as picking up the phone and asking, ‘hey, can we do this?’ There were a lot of pieces that needed to fall into place and a lot of negotiating that had to occur.”

He also talked about the Bayonetta 3, which said that the game has seen a change in the design process compared to the first two games, but didn’t expand on this. He also mentioned that there are multiple projects being worked on, and they’re currently hidden. One project has “never been done before” and that the game is “unlike anything else.”

PlatinumGames will reveal more in the future regarding their other games:

“Without speaking directly to the number of titles we may or may not announce, I can say it’s going to be a year of some major new approaches, new challenges and new methods for us.”

The studio will be making some big strides this year.
