Doom Eternal won’t be loaded with the traditional multiplayer mode.
Most fans will actually be pretty okay with the upcoming entry to Doom not having any multiplayer mode, given that the game will have Battlemode.
According to Executive Producer Marty Stratton, Battlemode will be the game’s primary game mode for multiplayer action. The combat will be taken directly from Doom and the combat will be familiar to all players.
Stratton discussed the reasoning behind their Battlemode, which is a 2v1 multiple mode. Having two creatures against a single slayer was to ensure balance for all players.
From their discussion, we can see that the team behind the game is listening to player feedback and building the game around what players are asking for.
Doom Eternal will be built based on feedback from Doom.
Creative Director Hugo Martin states the following:
“We couldn’t figure out a way of introducing another slayer to the experience without it just becoming twitch skills vs twitch skills,”
“Which is what we did last time. If we go head to head as two slayers – if your twitch skills are better than mine, I can’t overcome that. But with demons, I can overcome someone’s twitch skills with strategy and teamwork, and in that was the spark.“
Doom Eternal may be missing traditional multiplayer, but we’ll get the revamped Battlemode, which should offer a way to fulfill that MP action that players may be looking for.
