Grant Kirkhope shows doubt towards any new Banjo-Kazooie projects

Will there ever be a new Banjo-Kazooie game? Grant Kirkhope, the compose for the original Banjo-Kazooie, doubts it.

After the bird and bear duo arrived on the Nintendo Switch’s SSBU, fans thought this new attention to the characters would bring them back.

However, Kirkhope spoke his thoughts to VGC and said that he doesn’t think there will be another Banjo game. He mentions that the sales are good, but “it might be a drop in the ocean for Xbox.”

Kirkhope doesn’t have much control over the net Banjo-Kazooie game, but he thinks that Rare and Microsoft should give the game to another studio to work on the series.

After E3, we probably won’t be hearing anything until the next one. That was the one opportunity for Microsoft to really make some news, but we’re still getting nothing.

Kirkhope states:

“Is there a market for it? I just don’t know. I would think that Rare probably doesn’t have the appetite for it. They’re super busy with Sea of Thieves and that’s a gigantic game: it’s going to take the whole studio to keep making content for that.”

“Rare need to find somebody like that who gets the game, who really loves it, gets the humour, comes up with a great plot and then kicks on. They would need to find an external studio who really cares about the project and wants to do it, like they did with Killer Instinct and also similar to how Ubisoft Milan did a great job with Mario + Rabbids.”
