THQ Nordic has now bought out Piranha Bytes.
This studio was the developer of Gothic and Risen, which has been confirmed in a financial report to be acquired by THQ Nordic.
Their other recent acquisition was just a few months ago. And now they’ve also picked up Piranha Bytes, which means they may be able to do something with the Gothic, Risen, or even ELEX game series.
The two companies aren’t strangers, as they’ve been working together with Piranha Bytes as as publisher.
Based on the press release, estimated payment for royalty to Piranha Bytes for upcoming games equals the game’s purchase price. Other details are yet to be revealed.
All employees from Piranha Bytes will be remaining on staff with no changes announced.
The studio will be an independent game developer with a new name, “Piranha Bytes GmbH” and still has their own creative freedom.
The only difference is that now they’re owned by THQ Nordic.
