Does anyone remember Kao the Kangaroo? Well, he’s coming back.
Just like Bubsy’s amazing return, another old-school platformer will be coming to the PC for a modern release.
Well, the game won’t exactly be remastered or anything. It’ll be Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2, coming to PC on June 1, 2019 next month.
Back in the early 2000, platformers like these were popular, even though they weren’t that good. The ones that did it good were games like Banjo Kazooie and Mario. Other games like Bubsy and Kao the Kangaroo were just obscure titles that no one knew about.
Kao the Kangaroo comes from Tate Multimedia, which was just brought back by the same developers and coming to the PC. The game isn’t a remaster, but rather direct PC port to the series.
The original prequel was out on the Dreamcast. Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 was then released with an AUS and EU exclusive. The gameplay is based on the likes of other popular games like Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, and other similar ones. Although Kao the Kangaroo doesn’t seem to be a directly clone, the game ain’t half bad.
The game just may be Kao’s big return to the nostalgic/retro/modern genre, and Tate has been doing some work to please fans and try to get more players to get exposed with strategic tweets.
Kao is a kangaroo with a pair of boxing gloves. He’s had some dedicated fans ask to bring him back, with the #BringKaoBack hashtag on Twitter and a few nostalgic reviews from Nitro Rad. Tate has still held onto the rights for the game for all this time, and now they’re doing something. Finally.
Kao the Kangaroo: Round 2 doesn’t need any explanation. Just look at the character and you’ll see the nostalgia. The PC port will release on June 1, 2019.
