Amazon Game Studios has fired off many employees and has shelved many games that were unannounced.
For those unaware, Amazon does have their own video game studio that focuses on mobile games. They’ve fired dozens of employees, as reported by Kotaku.
Amazon told these employees to look for new positions within the company in 60 days, or else they get the banhammer.
Some projects that were possibly in development have also been canceled.
One was a particular fantasy sports game that the company first announced back in 2016 and then canceled two years later.
Amazon isn’t the only company doing this though. EA has also fired many employees, followed by Daybreak Studios, and Telltale even shut down completely.
This was Amazon statement on the matter:
“We’re working closely with all employees affected by these changes to assist them in finding new roles within Amazon. Amazon is deeply committed to games and continues to invest heavily in Amazon Game Studios, Twitch, Twitch Prime, AWS, our retail business, and other areas within Amazon.
Amazon Game Studios is reorganizing some of our teams to allow us to prioritize development of New World, Crucible, and new unannounced projects we’re excited to reveal in the future. These moves are the result of regular business planning cycles where we align resources to match evolving, long-range priorities. ”
Writer and journalist for almost a year. Doing this for fun. Learned a lot along the way. I’m interested in businesses and the moves they make, tech and how it changes the world, and of course, enjoy playing some video games! I enjoy console and PC, but mostly RPGs, FPS, and League of Legends.
