Epic Games announced the ability for players to “undo” purchases they made in the game.
Having buyer’s remorse? Now you’ll have five minutes to refund your purchase in full. Although accidental purchases are rare because of how the game’s programmed (such as holding down a button for a period of time in order to buy), now players have no excuse to buy something only to regret it.
This new feature doesn’t do anything revolutionary, as a few other games have a system like this- or where players can simply ask for a refund within a reasonable amount of time. I’m talking about platforms like Steam, which allows you to refund a game in full if you do it within two hours of game purchase.
Regardless, this feature will let players get their cash back before they get angry over it. They’ll have five minutes to reclaim their purchase as long as they don’t start a match first.
There’s no exact date on when this new “refund” button will come to the game, but a Fortnite developer confirmed it on Reddit:
We neither want to add friction for players nor do we want to benefit from accidental purchases or players regretting a purchase.
Our initial solution for this was to add a refund token system.
As an ongoing iteration, we are going to introduce an “undo” button to the store page that allows you to easily refund without using up a token within a 5 minute time window, assuming you haven’t started a match since purchase.
Epic obviously made this limit accidental purchases by players, but others were complaining about how there’s no actual “purchase confirmed” screen after you buy something. Given that Fortune brings in millions of dollars a day, this will definitely cut down on regretful purchases by players. One thing to note- the Japanese version of Fortnite has a confirmation screen, which is weird.
The new undo button will be a solution to this problem, and many players agreed with the solution throughout the thread.
Stay tuned for updates on this new feature from the world’s most popular battle royale, with Apex Legends making just as much of a splash.
