Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game announced by IDW Games and Konami

Konami and IDW Games have partnered up to make the Metal Gear Solid board game.

It’ll be titled Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game, which may sound kind of uninspired. But for any MGS fan, this will be a board version of your favorite stealth heroes to tabletop form. MGS has been one of the best and most popular steal-action genres on the planet, and now the collaboration between IDW and Konami will attempt to recreate this experience with a board game.

IDW Games announced that the tabletop game maker is working with Konami to adapt the franchise into a miniature version based on the very first MGS game. They said the game would be fully cooperative among players as they play as Solid Snake, Meryl Silverburgh, Otacon, and Gray Fox. Each character for each player will have unique skills and abilities as they complete objectives based on scenarios.

The game will also have a “highly dynamic AI system and sandbox gameplay.” For someone who never plays board games, I’m not sure how this will work. IDW Games also added that they’ll allow players to take on missions in multiple ways so that each encounter is always unique.

Metal Gear Solid: The Board Game has no set release date other than sometime next year. The game will be shown off at E3 2019 and several other gatherings such as San Diego Comic Con, Gen Con, and Origins Game Fair.
