Skybound Games takes over Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season

Skybound Games takes over Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season 1

Skybound Games is jumping to rescue Telltale Game’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

After the first announcement that Telltale is going out of business and being left with a skeletal staff of about two dozen employees, followed by the tweet that said they were all laid off a few weeks later, Telltale has pretty much abandoned its development of their final project.

Now, Skybound Games has stepped in and announced on Twitter that they’ve reached a deal with Telltale and going to “wrap up Clem’s story right!”

Skybound Studios was the original creator of The Walking Dead. Founded by Robert Kirkman, the company was established and made the deal with Telltale. Now, they’ll be taking over the publishing and development of the game and trying to continue the previous Telltale influences to the game by “ensuring” that the dev team completes the story. Kirkman, at Comic-Con facing a New York audience:

“We’ve successfully negotiated with Telltale Games for our company Skybound to come in and see Season 4 of the Telltale game to completion, we can’t lose Andrew Lincoln and Clementine in the same year.”

A different team taking over the reins could mean a vastly different second half of the game. So it makes sense to use the same group of developers.

Skybound Entertainment was originally founded in 2010 and helped develop titles for film, games, and TV. They worked on projects like Overkill’s The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Road to Survival, and The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners were all published by them.

Skybound Games was then created in order to make it easier to develop video games, which has now taken over Telltale’s project. Fans can now rejoice that they’ll get to finish the game, even if it means another company has to complete it.
