Apex Legends, the free battle royale game that was recently released by EA and Respawn Entertainment is the “Titanfall project” they’ve been working on.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be a Titanfall 3 in the future, it just means that the project everyone was talking about happens to Apex Legends. Respawn’s CEO Vince Zampella said that they were still planning to make more Titanfall games back in 2017, which led a lot of fans to assume this could only mean Titanfall 3 after the first two entries.
After Apex Legends’ design director Mackey McCandlish revealed the game at the reveal announcement, this is the game they were talking about when Zampella said they’re still working on something that has to do with Titanfall.
VG247 has confirmed this:
“This is the game being made by the Titanfall team, Apex Legends,” McCandish told me. “The Titanfall universe is continuing. It takes place in the Titanfall universe. This is the next game from the team that made Titanfall. There is no other team that makes Titanfall. That doesn’t mean there never could be another team that makes Titanfall.”
They also got the details regarding how the teams at Respawn are split over the project. They revealed that a small number of developers from Titanfall went over to work on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. But this was just a very small group (single digit) number of devs. The main team is working on Apex Legends (the Titanfall team) and there are no other Titanfall projects in development at the moment.
Apex Legends is completely free-to-play and is currently available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game is a battle royal game set in the Titfanfall universe with cosmetic microtransaction and loot crates. Other than that, it’s the only dose of new Titanfall fans will be getting for now.

I specialize in indie games as I think they don’t get the attention they deserve. I’m just your typical consumer who has some opinions to share. I’ve been reviewing games since I was 12. I started out reviewing them with friends on old forums that now no longer exist. Then I went to online VoDs, which I’ve lost interest in.
