Fallout 76 “premium” leather jacket brings the memes

Bethesda has annouced a “premium” Fallout 76 leather jacket available for purchase soon.

Of course, given their pretty shaky history ever since the game rolled out two months ago, there’s been mostly criticism over everything they’ve done to it so far. One of the most notable things that happened was the cheap nylon bags they sent out to people who purchased the Power Armor Edition, which was their most expensive product offering. It was advertised as a premium canvas bag, but players who shelled out $200 for the package only got a cheap nylon one.

Accusations came up when famous Internet celebrities started showing off the bag and how it differed from the one players actually received. In other words, Bethesda probably sent the actual canvas bags to them while the rest of the majority got cheap bags. Bethesda says they ran out of materials or the materials were too expensive to use, so they paid those angry folk off with 500 Atoms– their in-game currency which equates to about $5.

Now, with the announcement of a premium Fallout 76 leather jacket available on the Bethesda Gear Store, fans have already gone ahead and made their own version of what to expect. Rather than a bright blue, lambskin leather jacket with a shiny “76” insignia printed on it, fans have recreated it and made it their own. The jacket costs $276 and comes within a Fallout 76 premium bag. Oh no.

Here’s how it’s “supposed” to look when (with varying degrees of photoshop editing):

And here’s what fans think it’ll actually look like:

The bag itself already looks like another nylon material, perhaps the same one that Bethesda ordered in a large quantity before switching over to Atoms as reimbursement for the cheap ripoff that landed them in some pretty hot stew when their bag was nothing as advertised.

As for the jacket, I have no idea. The lighting on the model seems pretty extreme, so I doubt the actual jacking will have so much “glow.”

Regardless, here’s what Bethesda says about this Fallout 76 jacket:

  • Original custom neck label issued from the vault
  • Black leather 76 patch on front
  • Metallic gold 76 appliqué on the back
  • Asymmetrical back seam, metallic gold piecing and bicep arm pads all inspired by the Vault Suit
  • Metallic gold hardware including a custom bolt zipper pull
  • Adjustable cuffs for the wrists
  • Lined in silky, shiny taffeta fabric
  • Comes packaged inside a Fallout 76 garment bag

Fallout 76 is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. There have been a few major updates to the game since the day it came out, but there are still a ton of bugs, exploits, and other things that need to get fixed. There were also rumors last week that the game was going F2P, but that was quickly debunked by Bethesda following speculation by fans and critics.

Hopefully, they learn from this and not repeat it again for Elder Scrolls 6.
