Yoshi’s Crafted World has a free demo out available today for Nintendo Switch owners. And it’s awesome!
This was announced from Nintendo Direct and aligns perfectly with Yoshi’s (the game) release on bail for tax fraud. Yoshi can now do whatever he wants throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, such as hurling eggs at random targets as he makes his way through his own game.
The free demo of Yoshi’s Crafted World will let Switch owners play through the first level of the game.
After trying it out, it’s very similar to older Yoshi games in terms of artwork. Playing the game easily brought back memories of Yoshi’s Wooly World and Yoshi’s New Island. Also somewhat of Yoshi’s Story back during the Nintendo 64 days. The game looks like a penciled art style with some chalky textures.
Yoshi can ride, race, and even shoot down other airplanes while buzzing around skybound. You can also shoot eggs into the background and a special switch that’ll flip the perspective of the player’s view to opposite directions- hard to explain, but just watch the demo video attached to this article and you’ll see what I’m trying to convey.
Of course, the core of the game is platforming with a collect-a-thon kind of setup. You can get coins that can be exchanged in a gumball machine to get you new costumes for the Yoshis to wear. They’re not just for looks- they do things like protect them with extra armor and there’s a whopping total of 180 costumes int eh game. Some are harder to find, others are easy.
There will also be some bosses like Burt the Ball and Piranha Plants.
You can download the free demo of Yoshi’s Crafted World on Nintendo’s eShop and play it to keep you busy until the full release on March 29 for the Switch.
