Respawn addresses cheaters in Apex Legends

Cheaters and hackers in Apex Legends are a continued issue that Respawn struggles to deal with.

As the game gets more and more popular with more and more players, the game continues to get its fair share of hackers and cheaters. At this point in the game’s popularity, many players are complaining about the ongoing amount of problematic players- especially on Reddit.

Reddit user “My_watch_is_ended” states that Apex Legends may be doomed if they don’t hurry up and address the cheaters faster, as this user references PUBG and the fate of the game after they ignored doing something about the hackers. Apex Legends may undergo the same destiny if they don’t do something about the problem and resolve it, as the user states most of the players have moved on from PUBG to other games and believes the same could happen to Apex Legends.

“Apex needs to address cheating issue faster. Asian server is filled by Chinese cheaters.”

Users on Reddit have stared many threads regarding this problem, some even going as far as saying that every solo/duo lobby they encountered this week had an aimbot player with video evidence as proof. Other users commented on the fact that they were killed over and over by the same hacker from last week- even after reporting the user to EA/Respawn via email.

Of course, Respawn isn’t ignorant to the pressing problem and has followed up with some updates to address the cheater. A community manager from Respawn posted in the Apex Legends subreddit that they’ve banhammered over 355K players on PC with their Easy Anti Cheat engine.

“We are very aware of the cases of players spamming during character select and the drop and then disconnecting shortly after. We’re keeping a lot of our strategy close to the chest so offenders don’t have time to build workarounds before we implement changes. Solutions won’t happen right away but we’re on it.”

They also say that they’re developing some cheat detectors and won’t reveal their plans, as this would just allow the cheaters to get some intel to stay one step ahead of Respawn. They did say that they’re working on higher level plans such as working with EA experts and scaling up the cheat team staff- and also adding the much-needed “report player” feature on the PC. Players have requested this feature since the beginning.

Apex Legends has been a huge success so far, but the team seemed unprepared for this level of success. They seem like they’re out of resources to scale with the game’s level of demand at this point. And they’ll have to act quickly or scale up in order to keep up with player demand or else this game could turn to crap.

You can check out the game for yourself on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The game is free to play with cosmetic in-game purchases.
