Sony releases 2018 PS4 sales data; 91.6M total units sold

PS4’s lifetime sales reports have been released after 6 years on the market, and they’re nothing short of profitable.

While the PS4 has always had an edge over the competition for this generation, the 2018 holiday season proved to be a very strong one for the PlayStation due to exclusive first-party games. The company released some data regarding 2018 PS4 sales, which they claim to be one of the best yet.

As of December 31, 2018, the PS4 has sold 91.6M units globally since its release date. Sony states that the PS4 sold over 5.6M units worldwide during the holiday season of 2018.

They also revealed other stats on the software they release- in other words, games. Marvel’s Spider-Man sold ver 9Mcopiess worldwide with 50.7M PS4 games sold in total during the holiday season for a total of 876M PS4 games sold in total since the launch 6 years ago. This accounts for both retail and digital game sales via PS Store. 90M PSN users have been totaled on the service as of November 2018.

Sony had a very strong sales record this holiday with plentiful sales in hardware and sales performance. Games developed by Sony such as Spider-Man and God of War both helped prospective gamers pick up a PS4 to play these hit games. And third-party games were also strong as games like Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey and Red Dead Redemption 2. Games that have exclusive early-release content for Sony like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also helped.

The PS4 is about to 7 years old on the market and first-party games have been reduced in number, but they’ll come back with the PS5’s speculated debut in 2020. Sony enters its final year before the next major console releases from them, but that doesn’t mean the PS4 is going to slow down anytime soon. Sales as still strong and they still have another year to beat the books.
