Anthem demo launches this week; Details and what to expect

Antem’s first public demo will release in just a few days from now.

BioWare has gone ahead and detailed a few things about the game, namely that an economy and progression balance system will be in place that gives all players a chance to try out nearly everything with minimal restrictions for both demos- the pre-order exclusive and the free demo.

The game will be BioWare’s next AAA title and features a futuristic storyline with FPS combat, flying, and lots of quests. It’s similar to Destiny 2 and has often been compared. The game will run on microtransactions that are purely cosmetic with no loot crates at all.

Anthem’s Executive Producer, Mark Darrah, posted on Twitter a list of differences that players will see between the actual game and the Anthem demo. As anyone would expect, the demo will have bugs and beta features that won’t carry over or will be fixed in the actual final release.

The demo is built on an older build of the game and won’t have any special tutorial as it throws players right into the middle of the game. This is how BioWare will gauge player activity and allow all players to get a feel for the chunk of the gameplay that you’ll find yourself in after the boring stuff during the intro to the game.

This means you’ll get to pretty much have everything unlocked already as you mess around in the demo realm, which is cool. But conversely, you won’t be able to create your pilot and watch the beginning cutscenes or tutorial if you’re into that sort of thing.

On the PC, there will be better controls on a mouse/keyboard combo for flying compared to consoles, but the actual version will have all controls improved across all platforms likely. And some item names will be changed for the final version as well, but this doesn’t really matter. No one is “meta” yet.

The Anthem demo will launch this Friday, January 25 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Players can pre-order the game to snag the exclusive demo, or anyone can play the free demo which releases the following week. Players who are EA/Origin Access members also get the exclusive demo.
