XCOM 2: War of the Chosen DLC Pack free on 10/9; New maps, weapons, modes

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen DLC Pack free on 10/9; New maps, weapons, modes 7

XCOM 2 will be getting a new, free DLC content pack next week that’s literally packed with new content. XCOM 2 and its expansion XCOM 2: War of the Chosen – Tactical Legacy Pack will be free on October 9th, 2018 for gamers who own the base game. But it’s not free forever- on December 3rd, the DLC will be had for $7.99. So act fast!

War of the Chosen – Tactical Legacy Pack will include three new gameplay modes: Legacy Ops, Resistance Archives, and Skirmish. Legacy Ops is the connection between XCOM: Enemy Uknown and XCOM 2, which takes place 20 years in the future where an alien threat has broken out.

Here’s a video showing off the pack:

Legacy Ops includes 5 missions where you control Central officer Bradford, Lily Shen, and other XCOM personnel as you wade through mission and defeat hordes of aliens hungry to eat you up. This mode will have no base management and is a combat only mode.

Resistance Archives will be somewhat of the same, but with missions that get harder and harder each time you beat them. And Skirmish mode sounds exactly like what it reads- you can “create and play your own custom XCOM tactical missions using the included editor that allows you to modify various settings (map, squad loadouts, objective, enemies, and more.)”

There will also be new maps in the Central Archives mission alongside these new game modes. The developers are remasting several battlefields from the 2012 XCOM: Enemy Uknown and its expansion Enemy Within. Weapons and armor will also be included in the mission. After you complete the mission in Legacy Ops, you can use the weapons and armor in the base game.

There will also be new helmets, soldier attitudes, and photobooth options. There will also be new soundtrack options that includes tracks from the previous game and a new UFO Defense-like track. Lastly, there will be an Offline Challenge Mode that allows players to fight in any of the game’s 100+ War of the Chosen challenges as often as you want to play them again.

Stay tuned for updates.

Surviving Mars Da Vinci update live on PC; What’s new?

Surviving Mars Da Vinci update live on PC; What's new? 10

Surviving Mars released a new update this week according to a news post on their Steam Community page.

Surviving Mars is exactly what it sounds like. You need to establish a colony on the planet with just a cargo rocket and some drones and basic resources to start with and you need to expand your colony, build shelter, and explore the planet. The game doesn’t just put you alone on the planet though, you can breed humans to help perform tasks on your base in the harsh environment. You can actually expand beyond a thousand humans if you play well enough.

The game’s newest content patch is called the Da Vinci update. It allows a bunch of new features and balance adjustments to take place in the game. The main feature is Creative Mode, which allows players to basically have a large amount of capital and disable all the nasty diameters in the game in order to build creatively. It’s like RollerCoaster Tycoon on Mars with unlimited cash. It’s basically your typical freedom custom mode. Of course, achievements will be disabled if you’re playing in Creative.

Resource management has also been revamped to make it easier to harvest and utilize materials. Players can set a minimum desired amount of resources on a per-depot basis which allows adequate stockpiles of materiasl in various sections of your colony. The UI has also been improved and simplified. And power producers/consumers will now automatically connect to nearby buildings rather than requiring a tile power cable to be built.

Balance has also been addressed with some tweaks like building power consumption increases or maintenance parts changed. The Electronics Factory now uses machine parts for maintenance. Genius colonists will now grant research if you keep their Sanity high enough and Celebrity colonists will provide funding if their Comfort levels are kept well.

There’s also a Tourist trait for colonists now. Colonists will generate $10M upon arrival and stay for a few days, then leave. When they go back, they’ll bring back two new Tourist applicants. This is pretty cool because players can now establish a vacation destination on Mars and also get some additional income from it!

The Da Vinci update is already live on PC and console launches coming shortly. Another update called the Sagan Update will come next month in September with plenty of challenges along with it.

Destiny 2: Forsaken DLC adds a ton of new weapons

Destiny 2: Forsaken DLC adds a ton of new weapons 11

Destiny 2 is getting its third DLC expansion rolling out this September called Forsaken, which follows up on Warmind which was just released this May. Forsaken adds a large amount of new content tot he game and the official Twitter account of Destiny confirms it.

Several weapons have been teased under the banner of “new tools of the trade,” which seems interesting enough to draw some attention to the game as most of the recent packs have been criticized for not having enough content and things to do in the game.

The Two-Tailed Fox is a weapon that launches that two rockets simultaneously. The Antaeus Wards armor allows the player to reflect projectiles by sliding. The Trinity Ghoul weapon is a bow that generates an electrical storm arrow when precision killing enemies. The Sixth Coyote armor lets you double doge attacks. Malfeasance is a weapon hits five hits in swift succession and will detonate with an explosion. And the Black Talon is a projectile sword that can be thrown.

There’s also a gun called the One Thousand Voices that shoots and beam of fire and the Chromatic Fire armor takes on the same theme with elemental booms from precision kinetic kills. There’s another bow called the Wish-Ender which is a bow that allows the player to see through walls and price targets. Lastly, there’s the Ace of Spades which ss gun that grants extra damage bullets after reading following a kill. The Forsaken pack seems to be all weapons, but there will probably be no complaints from the community as weapons are always welcome.

Additional details to be released in the coming weeks. Forsaken for Destiny 2 comes out on September 4th for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders will get you a nice cosmetic skin.

Planet Coaster Vintage DLC pack coming July 10; What’s new?

Planet Coaster Vintage DLC pack coming July 10; What's new? 12

The new DLC for Planet Coaster is set to launch on July 10, 2018, based on a post on their official site. Planet Coaster is the modern RollerCoaster Tycoon and is one of several newer entries into the theme park simulator genre. It’s developed by a team of people that features many of the same members who developed RCT 3.

So far, a few DLCs have been released and plenty of free updates keeping the game fresh since its initial release back in 2016. The new DLC is called the Vintage Pack and is a paid content release.

It’ll feature two new wooden coasters- the Zephyrus which is a fast wooden coaster and Aces Sky which has biplane carriages and navigates sideways through a huge wooden tunnel. It’ll also have five new regular rides, such as Round The World which is similar to a standard Ferris wheel, Loop Da Loop which is an old-school twin-cabin swinging inverter ride, and Test Flight which is an inverting plane that allows guest control. Hurricane and Centrum are both carnival classics that make up the remainder of the new regular rides in the Vintage Pack DLC.

There are also new machines that can be added to the park with this new update. Gumball and popcorn and even an animatronic that predicts the future can all be added throughout the park in order to keep guests happy and your income flowing. You can also set the odds of these machines in order to increase your profit margins or make the tradeoff for guest happiness.

And lastly, the pack adds a bunch of vintage scenery to the game (to no surprise) and wall sets will be available with this update.

If you’re not interested in this DLC or you’re just not a DLC buyer, there will also be a free update to the game that brings recolorable staff, photo filters, free coasters, and more. Thank the developers for keeping the game interesting and updated.

PS VR Shooter Firewall Zero Hour release date, pre-order specials, and formats

PS VR Shooter Firewall Zero Hour release date, pre-order specials, and formats 13

Firewall Zero Hour, a new squad-based shooter from First Contact Entertainment will launch on August 28th, 2018.

The release date was confirmed on a post on the PS blog. The creative producer of the game Damoun Shabestari talks about the game’s formats, release date, some gameplay features.

From the trailer of it, it looks like a Rainbow Six game in VR. It shows off some of the team-centered gameplay and impressive visuals.

Players play as a mercenary contractor who works with their team to attack or defend sensitive data in laptops. Communication, teamwork, and cooperation will be necessary in order to be successful. The game will also have training modes and AI for those who aren’t used to this type of strategic gameplay.

Shabestari describes the game as a “4v4 team-based tactical PS VR Shooter” where the objective is to “either acquire or protect a cache for sensitive data.” Each mission will award XP and in-game currency called Crypto for the player. Items unlocked with XP aren’t owned yet, weird enough. XP unlock weapons, attachments, equipment, and more.

The post also talked about some pre-order goodies and game formats. If you buy it earlier, you get a special Zero Hour Pack which includes some specials. A physical PS Aim bundle will be available for purchase also which includes the special DLC and a PS Aim controller. More features TBA. Stay tuned for details.

Second DLC pack for Assassin’s Creed: Origins announced (and first DLC is out soon!)

ACO fans will get their first DLC soon.

Ubisoft is about to release its first DLC ever for Assassin’s Creed Origins and has added tons of free new content.

The first DLC adds a whole new area, raised the level cap, and brought some new skins. Assassin’s Creed Origins: The Hidden Ones had Bayek destroying the Roman forces occupying a slice of Egypt, and it was up to the player to control Bayek and his team to take them down. You’ll be able to craft another two levels of your gear to get even more powerful. The level cap was also bumped up 5 levels and also scattered new weapons, armor, and mounts throughout Egypt. The DLC will be available on January 23, 2018 for $9.99.

And there will be a free quest added to the game as well that’s a prequel to the entire storyline. It’s called “Incoming Threat” and will be available to all players. Lots to get excited about.

And now they’re on their way to their second DLC pack. The second ones called  Assassin’s Creed Origins: The Curse of the Pharaohs. It adds another big quest that has Bayek traveling to Thebes to take care of a plague in the area. You’ll have to slay mythical beasts as you try to solve the puzzle. On the technical side, it bumps the level cap another 10 levels (so that’s 15 from total with the two DLC packs from the original level cap of 40 for a total of 55 levels). The second DLC will cost $19.99 and released March 6th, 2018.

It focuses a lot more on the mythical side of the game.

And finally, there’s a new mode coming out that focuses on the educational side of the game instead. It’s like a guided tour that has historians talk about Egypt’s history and has no combat. It’s called the Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed: Ancient Egypt. This will be free for all owners and rolls out February 20th.

It’s a good month for ACO fans. There’s a ton of both free and paid content rolling out for those who’ve already beat the game. Now you have some awesome additional areas to explore, armor to find, mounts to ride, and quests to complete!
